Lower Leg ORINs

Gastrocnemius

     O: Medial head = posterior distal femur
          Lateral head = lateral femoral condyle
     I:   Calcaneal tendon --> posterior calcaneus
     F:  Plantarflexion, knee flexion
     N: Tibial nerve S1-2

Plantaris

     O: Inferior lateral supracondylar line of femur
     I:   Calcaneal tendon --> posterior calcaneus
     F:  Plantarflexion, knee flexion
     N: Tibial nerve S1-2

Soleus

     O: Soleal line of tibia
          Posterior fibular head
     I:   Calcaneal tendon --> posterior calcaneus
     F:  Plantarflexion
     N: Tibial nerve S1-2

Popliteus

     O: Posterior proximal tibia
     I:   Lateral femoral condyle
     F:  Laterally rotates femur on fixed tibia (unlocks knee)
     N: Tibial nerve L4-S1

Tibialis Posterior

     O: Posterior surface of interosseous membrane
          Adj. regions of tibia and fibula
     I:   Navicular tuberosity
          Adj medial cuneiform
     F:  Inversion, plantarflexion, supports medial arch during walking
     N: Tibial L4-5

Fibularis Tertuis (not found in every person)

     O: Distal medial fibula
     I:   Base of metatarsal V
     F:  Dorsiflexion, eversion
     N: Deep fibular nerve L5-S1
