SI Joint Tests

There are four sacroiliac joint tests. If the first and second are positive, do not continue with the third and fourth. That would just be unnecessary, cruel pain. The work of a physioterrorist some may say.

1. Thigh Thrust
Hip and knee flexed to 90 degrees. Apply vertical downward pressure through knee and femur

2. Anterior Gapping
          Moving ASISs apart

3. Side-lying SI Compression
Apply vertical downward pressure through ilium --> SI compression

4. SI Compression in Prone
         Direct pressure

Progress through tests, in order. Do not need to continue with the test once two are true as this confirms SI joint origin.

Can be used in conjunction with observation of PSIS alignment in stationary postures and movements (e.g. one sided hip flexion).
