Empty Can = supraspinatus, abduction
Lateral Rotation = infraspinatus, PT applies internal pressure to pts forearms (flexed to 90 degrees with elbows in at sides)
External Rotation Lag = pts arms in external rotation at end of range, PT asks pt to hold. If unable, substantial rupture of supra/infraspinatus.
Lift Off Test = subscapularis. Hand behind back, is pt able to lift and hold hand off back?
Hornblowers = teres minor. Pt able to lift hand to mouth without abducting to 90 degrees. Inability suggests tear.
Apprehension Test = anterior instability of GHJ. Pt supine, arm in lateral rotation and abduction. Slowly position into full lateral rotation and observe any apprehension from patient.
Load and Shift = anterior instability of GHJ. Fix scapula and apply anterior translation. Increased laxity = positive.
Sulcus sign = inferior instability, stabilise scapula and inferiorly pull on GHJ.
NB External rotation = Lateral rotation, merely depends on the source of information.
Welcome! This blog is a collection of notes developed throughout a physiotherapy degree. As this was created for personal use, the information presented is to be used only as a guideline. All notes are collated from a variety of sources and all images are independently created. If you are interested in the sources, please visit physioref.blogspot.co.uk for the majority of references.
